Thank you for choosing Platinum!

My name is Lindsey, and I am the Owner & Director of Platinum Dance Center. We are so excited to welcome you to our studio! Dance has been my passion since I first began taking classes at age 5. My true love for teaching began when I began assistant teaching at 15 - nothing brings me more pride than helping students discover their own potential. At PDC we consider ourselves a family - a dance family where dancers are supported and encouraged to accomplish their goals in a positive and healthy environment. We pride ourselves on having a studio that offers a robust and well-rounded dance program, that focuses on training and building a strong foundation across all disciplines of dance. We live the belief that our education at PDC is not to teach your kids to make great dancers, but instead we teach dance to make great kids. I am so thankful that you have chosen our studio to pursue your child’s dance education.

Congrats, You are a Dance Parent!
Being a dance parent is a little bit like being in a secret society; there's new lingo to learn and a whole culture that you are now a part of. Here's the inside scoop on what you need to know for your new status as a PDC dance mom or dad.
Study up on your dancewear vocab.
A leotard is the form-fitting bodysuit that dancers wear to class, and tights are worn underneath. Ballet shoes are skin-tone and they should fit snugly on your child's feet; don't buy them with room to grow! Tap shoes are the noisy ones and jazz shoes look a little like slip-on ballet shoes, except with a small heel.
Learn about the recital.
At Platinum Dance Center, we offer opportunities every year for our students to perform. A recital is when each class performs a routine on stage and in costume, and family and friends watch the show from the audience. All Rising Stars & above classes perform in our Holiday Showcase, and everyone dances in our Spring Showcase! Stay tuned all year to our emails and handouts for all the need-to-know recital info!
Practice how to do a bun.
A bun is the hairstyle we recommend for most classes, as it allows students to move freely without getting hair in their face. A quick Google or YouTube search will give you oodles of tutorials to choose from - or just ask us!
Pack a dance bag.
Dance shoes, a water bottle, extra dancewear and hair supplies...all of these things belong in your child's dance bag. Do NOT allow your child to wear their dance shoes outside - it damages their shoes and our floors! Be sure to label everything with your child's name or initials in case it gets left behind.

Introduce yourself to the other parents.
We love building a community of like-minded moms and dads who understand our culture and enjoy having their children involved in dance. Our dance parents are some of the best people we know, so we encourage you to introduce yourself in the lobby. Share stories, find carpools, plan playdates, or ask about their personal experiences at PDC!

Preparing for Your First Dance Class
Your child's first dance class at PDC is on the calendar and it's all your child can talk about - what they are going to wear, who they are going to meet, what they are going to do. It's seemingly endless anticipation!
We know how exciting it is for you and your child to get ready for their first dance class, and that sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming, too. Rest assured that the feeling is normal, and we're here to make sure you feel informed and organized for the first class. Here are our easy recommendations for being as prepared as possible!
2 Weeks Before:
-
Read through PDC's policies and dress code.
-
Obtain the correct dancewear and shoes.
-
Check the schedule to confirm your child's class day and time.
1 Week Before:
-
Talk with your child about what it will be like to listen to the teacher and meet new friends.
-
Practice getting dressed for dance class including doing your dancer's hair!
-
Visit us at the studio! Email us to see when our office hours are and stop in for a tour!
On the Day-Of:
-
Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early so your child doesn't feel rushed.
-
Leave any jewelry or toys at home.
-
Pack your child's dance shoes in a bag so they are not worn outside.
Remember that your child might feel anxious before the first class, and that's OK! Our teachers will put them at ease and make sure they feel welcome in the studio. Keep reassuring your little one that it's normal to feel nervous before trying something new, and that you're proud of them for making the effort.
in our experience at Platinum Dance Center most students take time to "warm-up" to the routine of coming to dance class, and it may take them a few weeks to feel completely comfortable. some students jump right in with no hesitation! no matter what, we look forward to seeing your little one in class soon!
What to Expect On Day One
-
It's going to be BUSY! It's kind of like Rope-Drop at Disney World. The first week or two at the studio is always packed and full of energy. It WILL calm down, it just takes some time.
-
Your dancer will be asked to line up in the hallway with other members of their class and escorted into the studio by their teacher. You get to come in the studio to meet their teacher, too!
-
There will be introduction activities on the first week as we all get to know each other! Our littlest dancers may struggle with the transition to dance class, but after about 2-3 weeks, they will be completely independent and love coming to dance!
-
Dancers in Studio C will still check-in at the main entrance and be escorted to C by a member of our staff.
-
You can watch your dancer in class in our lobby via our CCTV's.
-
You can take a photo with our First Day of Dance sign - be sure to tag us on social media!
-
Your dancer is going to have SO MUCH FUN!
